Learning Outcomes

Knowledge of the notions and the procedures of cultural management and the communication practices used by cultural organizations towards the various kinds of audiences, knowledge of cultural politics in national and international level. 

Comprehension of the meaning of management in the field of culture and also its specificity in relation to management in other fields, related purely to business.

Application of the taught material at the organization and promotion of cultural happenings (relevant exercises are given in class).

Analysis of audiences, methods of communication politics, practical rules in cultural management. 

Synthesis of the above so that the students will be prepared for a carrier in the field, emphasizing not only on the knowhow, but also on ideas-keystones for culture, that have practical ends.

Evaluation of the tactics of management adopted by the various cultural organizations and their real needs, so that the students that have followed the course can be in the position to propose alternative management styles (if those that have been chosen are not satisfactory) in the work market, in order to attract wider audiences.

Course Content

The ideas examined are associated with the national and the european cultural identity, with issues of intercultural communication, cultural management, organization and rhetorics (promotion, advertisement) of culture.

Through direct contact with practical issues and special activities, issues of organizational and administrative nature are being examined, and also the background that rules these practices, emphasizing in their communication nature.

Learning Exercises

Evaluation of examples of cultural management and communication practices presented during the workshop, conduction of a real audience poll, proposed modifications both relating to management, and to the communication politics adopted by the organizations being presented.

Interactive, participatory teaching.

Criteria and Methods of Evaluation 

The students are assessed through their work in the class, the learning exarcises, and also a written exam at the end of the semester.
