Learning Outcomes

    Knowledge of the history and ideological waves of the New Hellenism, the mentalities that influenced the development of the new Greek nation and all those parameters that formed thinking and action of the citizens of the Greek nation since its foundation. 

Comprehension of the proofs for the conception of a higher thinking, indulgence in the different Institute’s perception concerning other ideological currents. 

Application of the methodological approaches of historic science and understanding of broad social situations. 

Analysis of different and often controversial "currents", consideration through the part of historic sources. 

Composition of individual and often controversial narrations for a particular matter, in order to point up the different modulation groups of power mechanisms. 

Evaluation of data that provide proof in order to formulate an interpretive proposal in understanding of the mentality of the citizens of Greece and target the accession of the particular historic conjunction in Balkan and European environment.

Interpersonal – Interactive presentation with the support of supervisory tools such as maps and archives

Course Content

The notion "new Hellenism". Ideological currents of New Hellenism – "The Big Idea", Ellinothomanismos, Balkan cooperation. Anti-Slav feelings. Periodization of the political history of New Hellenism. Law and Power. Minorities. Alterity and Identities. Locality.

Teaching Methods

The course is based on a tripartite teaching method, with presentation, students’ discussion and editing historical sources given in class.

Criteria and Methods of Evaluation

Written examination at the end of the semester. The ability to comprehend study cases is evaluated with gradual difficulty following the example of the American universities.
